Deep midnight blue provides the canvas for an extraordinary display of Kashmiri Sozni, a richly detailed border of paisleys, floral forms, delicate rosettes and curling botanical motifs, worked in an intricate palette of muted rose, ivory, sage, rust and warm gold.

The contrast is intentional. Against the quiet depth of the blue, every stitch has room to be seen.

CARE & PRESERVATION

A piece of this craftsmanship deserves careful treatment.

  • Professional dry cleaning is recommended for this woven Pashmina shawl, particularly because of the extensive hand embroidery. The Cashmere & Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute recommends dry cleaning for woven cashmere garments.
  • Avoid machine washing, bleaching, wringing or twisting.
  • Avoid pulling at the embroidered threads or catching the shawl on jewellery and rough surfaces.
  • When not in use, fold rather than hang it to help preserve its shape.
  • Store it clean, dry and protected from moths; prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should also be avoided.
  • If it becomes lightly creased, gentle steaming is preferable to pressing directly with an iron.

Most importantly: this is a hand-embroidered heirloom, not an everyday wash-and-wear piece. Treat it accordingly.

The piece

The story

This is 100% pure Pashmina, handwoven before being entrusted to the painstaking work of Sozni embroidery. The embroidery was completed by a single artisan over 2 years, working patiently across the shawl stitch by stitch.

Sozni is known for its extraordinarily fine needlework and intricate floral and paisley vocabulary.

There is something particularly special about a piece made this way.

It cannot be hurried.

It cannot be perfectly repeated.

And it cannot be separated from the person who made it.

The smallest variations in the stitching are part of its character, a quiet reminder that this is not a pattern reproduced by a machine, but a work shaped by one person's hands, patience and years of practiced skill.

This is not simply a Pashmina shawl.

It is years of someone's life, made tangible.

HOW TO STYLE

The Midnight Garden is dramatic enough to be the centrepiece of an outfit, but the depth of the blue makes it surprisingly versatile.

For evening, drape it loosely over a black or ivory dress, allowing the embroidered border to fall naturally along the shoulders.

For a more contemporary look, wear it over a tailored black coat, cream wool coat or deep navy ensemble, letting one embroidered edge remain visible.

Or let the shawl do all the talking: minimal clothing, simple jewellery, and the Pashmina as the statement.

For a piece this intricate, restraint is often the most beautiful styling choice.

A LITTLE FACT

Sozni is so finely executed that, in highly skilled work, the embroidery can appear almost woven into the Pashmina rather than placed on top of it. Traditional Sozni designs commonly draw on floral, paisley and geometric forms, and the complexity of the work can extend from days to several years.

For this particular shawl, the most remarkable detail is even more personal: the embroidery was dedicated to one artisan for years of work.

That makes the piece more than a beautiful object.

There is a single human story behind all of those stitches.
